What is an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS)?
An Uninterruptible Power Supply provides continuous power to your device in the event of a power outage. Think of it as an instantaneous supply of back up power. Incredibly useful, especially in the Philippines, where brown outs remain quite common.
Why do you need an Uninterruptible Power Supply?
The Uninterruptible Power Supply is particularly useful for computers and gaming devices.
Why? Because it protects from two important things:
- Losing your hard earned work (and game), since the UPS will give you enough time to save your data before shutting down the device in a safe manner; and
- Damage to your computer or gaming device, which occurs due to an improper shutdown when the power supply is suddenly cut off
What’s different with the new Panther Uninterruptible Power Supply series?
Similar to the original Panther Uninterruptible Power Supply, the new 01 Series is a Line-Interactive UPS. This means, not only does it provide the protection features of a normal UPS but it also has a built-in AVR which will automatically regulate and stabilize the voltage entering your device.
But on top of that, we are proud to share that this digital UPS is able to provide additional visibility on the condition of your UPS, resulting in convenient usage and easier troubleshooting.
Specifically, the digital UPS’s LCD screen will provide easy visual indication of the following:
- Load Capacity: This helps you see how much of the UPS load is being used up by your plugged-in devices. For example: If the UPS can handle 900 Watts, and your computer consumes 450 Watts, then the load capacity would be ~50% (450 / 900 Watts)
- Battery Capacity: This helps you identify the estimated battery capacity of your UPS battery, which is what provides the backup power in case of a power outage. Ideally, you want this to be at 100%
- Input Voltage and Output Voltage: This allows you to easily see what power voltage is entering your device, without needing to use an external voltmeter.
In addition, additional protection features have been put into place to allow for faster troubleshooting:
- Overload Protection feature: When the UPS is overloaded, the Overload icon will light up and beeps will sound continuously until you remove some load (e.g. devices). Alternatively, this is also a good indicator that you need a higher capacity UPS instead
- Battery Fail Protection feature: As batteries are consumables and have to be replaced once it starts degrading, the Battery Fail icon will light up so you’ll know it’s time to have it replaced. This ensures your UPS will always be in good shape
- Fault Protection feature: In case of a suspected fault, the Fault icon will light up and beeps will sound continuously. This helps ensure your safety. When this happens, we recommend you bring in your unit for a diagnostic check, which is free as part of Panther’s Lifetime Service Warranty
