What is the purpose and importance of the PS Mark?
To protect consumer welfare by ensuring the quality, safety, and reliability of products sold within the Philippine market, the Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) provides product certification for all products that require mandatory certification
A manufacturer or importer whose product is under the mandatory product certification must submit its products to BPS for inspection and testing by BPS prior to distribution and selling in the market. Once passed, the manufacturer or importer will be provided clearance from the BPS authorities and will be allowed to place the PS (Philippine Standard) Mark or the ICC (Import Commodity Clearance) Mark on their products. Without this, they cannot sell or distribute their products in the Philippines
What’s the difference between the PS Mark and the ICC Mark?
Local manufacturers (products made in the Philippines) are required to get the PS Mark, while importers can obtain either an ICC (Import Commodity Clearance) Mark or a PS Mark.
As such, products with the Philippine Standard (PS) Mark means the product conforms to the specific Philippine National Standard, but does not necessarily mean it was manufactured in the Philippines
As a local manufacturer, what is the meaning of having a PS Mark?
As a local manufacturer, Panther Products Philippines Inc. submits to the following audit and testing from Bureau of Philippine Standards (BPS) representatives
- Annual Quality System Audit: During this audit, the BPS assessors conducts an actual physical visit to the company’s plants to check if the company is compliant with the requirements of the PNS ISO 9000:2018 series of standards, in terms of its end-to-end manufacturing and delivery process. This includes but is not limited to: raw material supplier certification check, suitability of manufacturing/storage, traceability of products manufactured, and calibration of devices used
- Product Audit
- In-plant testing: During the annual plant visit (as part of the Quality System Audit), BPS assessors witness the on-the-spot testing of Panther product samples using the company’s own facilities and resources. This serves as the initial check to determine if the product meets the Philippine National Standard requirements
- Independent testing: BPS assessors choose product samples straight from the company’s manufacturing site and submits these for testing to a BPS accredited testing laboratory. This serves as affirmation of the in-plant testing conducted by BPS representatives
Given the rigor of audits and testing that we undergo, we are proud to announce that Panther Products Philippines Inc. holds a Philippine Standard Safety Certification Mark, which certifies the safety and quality of Panther products in the market.
Because of this, we highly encourage consumers to be discerning when purchasing products and to ALWAYS be on the lookout for the Philippine Standard (PS) Mark or the ICC Mark.
Where is the PS Mark typically located?
The PS Mark will look like this – and is typically printed onto the product itself, except in cases where affixing the mark to the product is not practical, such as in the case of wires and cables, electrical tapes, ballasts and lamps.
In the case of Panther Extension Cords w/ Voltage Surge Protectors, the PS Mark can be found on the lower right side of the extension cord housing, so it can clearly be seen and easily be verified by all buyers.
