Purchased a battery charger? That’s just half the battle. We’re here to make sure you also take good care of said battery charger, so that it can reliably perform for many years to come. Remember that as you take care of your battery charger, it will also take good care of your battery. Keeping this in mind, here are some simple tips on how keep your Panther Automatic Battery Charger in tip-top shape.

  • Store your battery charger properly. Place it in a dry and cool place to avoid any damage to its internal components.
  • Never charge a defective battery, as this could damage the battery charger as well.

Let’s say you’ve done all this, but your Panther Automatic Battery Charger still seems to be acting up. Well, here are some troubleshooting steps you can take:

Why does the FAULT LED of my battery charger keep blinking?

Check your battery clips.

First thing to check is to make sure you’ve connected the battery clips properly.

  • The polarity of clips and terminal may be reversed. Remember: The red clip must be connected to the positive battery terminal, and the black clip must be connected to the negative battery terminal.
  • The battery clips are touching each other, which resulted in a busted fuse. Kindly make sure the battery clips are not touching each other

Check the battery being charged and its condition.

  • The voltage of the battery being charged is significantly higher than the allowable voltage of the Panther Automatic Battery Charger. If the battery voltage is higher than 17.5V (for PBA 1012) or higher than 35V (for PBA 1024), kindly disconnect the charger as it is not suitable to be used with your battery
  • The battery being charged may not be connected properly or may not even be a battery. When this occurs, the battery charger goes into protection mode. Kindly check and connect the battery securely to the battery charger, and see if this fixes the issue

The battery charger’s circuit board might be damaged.

  • A faulty board could be caused by a short circuit inside.
  • Charging a defective battery can also damage the battery charger’s circuit board.

We highly suggest bringing your battery charger for servicing at the Panther Service Center if the issue is with the PCB board.

Why is the FAULT LED steadily lit?

When the Fault LED is steadily lit, this means the battery charger is experiencing overheating, as the battery charger’s internal temperature must always be below 65°C.

Note that Panther’s Automatic Battery Charger does have a built-in cooling fan for the electronic circuit which will engage automatically when the unit reaches a certain temperature. However, if the fan is already turned on and the charger still breaches the allowable internal temperature, then the Fault LED will stay lit. When this happens, turn off the battery charger and wait for the battery charger to cool down before using it again.

Why is the FAULT LED flashing and the BULK LED steadily lit?

When the FAULT LED is flashing, and the BULK LED is steadily lit, this means that the battery you are charging is faulty and can no longer be charged. When this happens, please disconnect the battery immediately and have it replaced.

Why doesn’t it seem like the battery is progressing through the 7 charging stages (LED is stuck in Stage 1)?

If the light is stuck on Stage ①, it mostly likely means you are charging a defective or dead battery. Because the battery charger is unable to rehabilitate the battery, it will not pass the battery to the other charging stages anymore. When this happens, remove the battery immediately to prevent any damage to the charger PCB board.

Why won’t my Panther Automatic Battery Charger turn on?

Three common reasons are as follows:

  • The fuse inside the unit might be busted. However, it is also important to understand what might have caused the fuse to be busted in the first place to prevent this from happening again.
  • The switch is broken or damaged.
  • The circuit board is already defective.

In these instances, we highly suggest bringing your battery charger to the Panther Service Center for a free diagnostic so we can identify what the issue could be.
