Ever since the lockdown happened in the Philippines, many people have been forced to spend time at home, whether out of necessity or out of safety concerns. During this time, many in the Philippines have taken this opportunity to hone their skills in the kitchen as they cook and bake up a storm.

With the rise in home bakers, we’ve also seen an increase in people purchasing KitchenAid Mixers from the US or Canada, since KitchenAid Mixers purchased from abroad are significantly cheaper compared to those purchased in the Philippines.

However, before you happily purchase that KitchenAid Mixer from abroad, take note of the following considerations:

Do I need to buy a step down transformer for my KitchenAid Mixer?

If your KitchenAid Mixer is rated 100V, 110V or 120V; and you plan to use it in the Philippines, then the answer is a definite yes.

Because the Philippines power supply makes use of 220V AC, it is important that you plug in your KitchenAid Mixer into a Step Down Transformer first, so that the power supply of 220V can be converted to the required 100V, 110V, or 120V voltage requirement.

Not doing so could result in permanent damage to your KitchenAid Mixer, as the mixer is not designed to carry 220V power.

Which step down transformer should I purchase for my KitchenAid Mixer?

Step 1: Check the power consumption of your KitchenAid Mixer

Depending on your KitchenAid Mixer model, there are different ways to determine the power consumption rating.

The most simple way is to check the KitchenAid Mixer itself. Typically, you will find the rating indicated on the serial plate found either on the base or near the head area.

Another way is by checking the KitchenAid website, as they also indicate the power level (in watts) of each model.

Lastly, you can take a look at the KitchenAid manual, which would also indicate this information.

Step 2: Determine the transformer capacity required by your KitchenAid Mixer

If the KitchenAid power ratings are indicated as MAX wattage, then simply multiply that by 1.2 to get to the transformer capacity requirement. The general rule of thumb is to use a 20% allowance for voltage fluctuations.

To help you out, we’ve provided some example KitchenAid Mixer and Transformer recommendations below:

Now you might notice that we actually have multiple transformer recommendations. Fret not, we’re here to walk you through the different options so you can make the right choice.

100V and 110V series (500W-100V, 350W-110V, 500W-110V, 750W-110V):

  • No frills step-down transformer: Plug and use
  • No switch, no fuse
  • Two prong outlet: You’ll need to purchase a plug adapter before you can plug your KitchenAid mixer’s three-prong outlet into the transformer

DV series (350W-DV, 500W-DV, 750W-DV)

  • No frills step-down transformer: Plug and use
  • No switch, no fuse
  • Dual outlet: Can plug in either 100V or 110V appliance (but only one at a time)
  • Two prong outlet: You’ll need to purchase a plug adapter before you can plug your KitchenAid mixer’s three-prong outlet into the transformer

SA series (350W-110V SA, 500W-110V SA, 750W-110V SA)

  • Step-down transformer: Plug and use
  • Comes with on/off switch, and fuse protection in case of overload
  • Two prong outlet: You’ll need to purchase a plug adapter before you can plug your KitchenAid mixer’s three-prong outlet into the transformer

Box type series (PT 750w-110V)

  • Step-down transformer: Plug and use
  • Comes with on/off switch breaker for protection in case of overload
  • Three prong outlet: You can plug your KitchenAid Mixer directly into the transformer. Since the KitchenAid Mixer has a three-prong plug, and the Box type series has a three-prong outlet, no plug adapter is needed

Do I need to purchase a transformer or an AVR for my KitchenAid Mixer?

As we’ve discussed, if your KitchenAid Mixer’s voltage rating is different from the voltage rating of the country you plan to use it in, then you definitely need a transformer to use your KitchenAid Mixer as the transformer will convert the voltage to your required voltage rating.

So the only question that remains is, do you need an AVR as well?

Remember, the function of an AVR is to regulate voltage fluctuations to protect your appliance. As such, we would recommend you purchase an AVR for additional protection if these conditions apply:

  • If you plan to use your KitchenAid Mixer regularly or for long periods of time thus making it likely that your appliance will be subjected to voltage fluctuation
  • If your area commonly experiences voltage fluctuation

Point of fact, Panther’s PVR series offers AVRs with built-in transformer, which provides a 2-in-1 function. It converts the voltage to the required rating (transformer function), as well as helps regulate voltage fluctuations for your appliance (AVR function). Because of this, purchasing the Panther PVR series will allow you to save compared to if you purchased an AVR and a transformer separately.

Please see the table below for your reference on which AVR would be recommended for your KitchenAid Mixer.
