Rotational brownouts are a way of life for Filipinos – especially during summer months, typhoon season, or whenever it’s election season. Because of this, we’ve all come up with our own strategies to deal with the hours of no power – from chilling at the mall, purchasing battery-powered fans, and charging up our power banks in advance – we’ve done it all and life continues. But aside from the inconvenience these brownouts bring to our lives, did you know it could also be damaging your appliances?

The dangers of Voltage Surge

When the power returns after a brownout, we all rejoice! But as the power rushes back in, voltage surge and voltage fluctuations are remarkably common as the power lines adjust to the sudden influx of power. This power imbalance can last between a few seconds to a few minutes, and can cause significant damage to your appliance during that time.

How does Power-on-Delay work?

The Power-on-Delay will delay the electrical connection for ~3-5 minutes until the power stabilizes. By doing so, your appliance is protected from the expected post-brownout voltage surge, which in turn, ensures the continued safety and performance of your appliance.

Which equipment requires Power-on-Delay?

Equipment running on freon are particularly susceptible to post-brownout voltage surge damage (e.g., refrigerator, freezer, air conditioner) as it is important for the freon to settle down (~3-5 minutes) after the compressor stops, before the equipment can be safely turned on again

But as much as possible, we encourage users to place power on delay for all their important appliances – which is why a wide range of Panther products also include a power on delay feature as well.

So the next time you hear an announcement for yet another rotational brownout, hurry and purchase a Power-on-Delay for your appliances to make sure they’re safe from damage and can continue functioning for a long time.

Spread the love

Good day! Yes, that should be alright. Kindly check and make sure the time delay outlet’s maximum capacity is greater than or equal to the PVE 500’s maximum capacity (500 Watts). We hope this helps!

Do I have to push the power delay button every time I turned on for my pc desktop? Brownout happened twice in three months.

Good day! The button you are referring to is the BYPASS button. Note that the power-on-delay is automatic, and will NOT supply power to your appliance for 3-5 minutes after power resumes post-brownout. This is sufficient time for the power to stabilize, thereby protecting your PC desktop. However, if you are in a hurry to use your PC desktop (e.g. you just turned it on and need to use it immediately) then you can press by the bypass button and the Power-on-Delay will be bypassed, and power immediately supplied to your appliance. We hope this helps!

    Hi Team,

My client is looking for the below. Can you assist?

I need to get some kind of power on delay device to make our cellular backup boot up real slow.

The issue is the cellular hub is coming up before Bell after a power outage. Our phones tend to stick to the cellular WAN even when it’s closed. The phones stop working until a reboot but they keep eating data.

Hello, I bought PAT-3001 D power on delay for my Aircon, do I need to install a breaker or is it the same as power on delay?

Good day Pol! You need also to install a breaker for your AC unit because PAT 3001 D’s power on delay will only protect your appliance from sudden surges in electricity after power interruption. Hope it helps 🙂
